A true pioneer in the “breaking” industry, Ripping Wax was envisioned and launched by sports card and collectibles industry veteran David Gelfman in 2011. But you might say the company was several decades in the making.
David first broke into the business at the tender age of 8, helping his father and two brothers navigate the always exciting and ever-changing sports collectibles industry at assorted card shows across the country in the 1980s.
For over a decade David lived in New York City and built a successful career in the Finance industry. David then officially returned to the collectibles industry in 2011, founding Ripping Wax from his home in Miami, Florida.
Ripping Wax was born during a family beach vacation after stumbling into a card store in Delaware. David culminated an all-night card buying and opening bender with the proud admission that he was once again hooked on collecting cards. Amazed by the transformation of the industry and inspired by passing his love of collecting and trading on to his own infant son, David decided to launch Ripping Wax.
David infused the company with an innovative and interactive element that allows fellow card collectors and connoisseurs to purchase “spots”…then watch and participate in “breaking” of cases via live online feeds.
